Ensuring Safety while Mountain Biking

Agoura Hills, California-based business leader Tsafrir Jeff Aviezer has extensive experience in the construction industry. A licensed helicopter pilot, he has also spent time as president of Metro Aviation. Beyond his professional activities, Tsafrir Jeff Aviezer enjoys mountain biking.

There are a number of important safety tips cyclists should observe at all times, from wearing a helmet to effectively sharing the road with pedestrians, other cyclists, and riders on horseback.

Mountain bikers, in particular, should choose helmets with additional safety gear, pay extra attention to the quality and functionality of equipment prior to an excursion, and adhere to all posted trail signs. They should be aware of their limitations and maintain control of their bikes, even if this means turning back from a challenging trail. Similarly, conditions such as wetness or overly soft ground should be avoided whenever possible, as they elevate a rider’s risk for injury.

In some cases, cyclists may need to consult with experts or fellow riders to optimize safety measures. For instance, it may be advisable to lower tire pressure ahead of certain trails in order to maintain control of the bike. Riders may also lower seats past their preferred height in order to attain a more stable center of gravity on long stretches of downhill riding.
