Four Popular Mountain Bike Styles
A leader in the construction industry, Tsafrir Jeff Aviezer is the former president of Metro Aviation Inc., a company that operates helicopters for charity and profit. Outside of work, Tsafrir Jeff Aviezer enjoys mountain biking.
If you ride a mountain bike, choosing the correct style for the type of riding you do is important. Four of the most popular types of mountain bike are:
- Cross-country: The most popular style features a lightweight frame and fast-rolling tires to handle curving paths and obstacles such as mud. These bikes often have a suspension system that absorbs bumps on the trail and boosts comfort and speed.
- All-mountain: Also known as enduro bikes, these can handle varying obstacles and terrain. Because of their lightweight design, riders can easily maneuver both on and off the trail and move quickly along ascending trails.
- Downhill: These specialized bikes, ideal for competitions, are built with both front and rear suspension. The bikes are not necessarily lightweight since extra weight helps pull the bike faster downhill.
- Dirt jump: These big, BMX-type bikes are good for airborne tricks. Riders usually use dirt jump bikes in dirt parks instead of on mountains or trails. Since riders often land hard with dirt jump bikes, the bikes have a good front suspension.
